Too often marketing can feel out of reach for small business owners. Limited time and budget, plus a multitude of marketing theories, models and jargon can make it feel overwhelming.

Therefore, my mission as a marketing professional is simple:

“To help small businesses build a brand, attract customers and grow through smart, sensible and sustainable marketing services that are accessible and affordable.”

Good marketing can truly transform a business. Not only by creating and embedding a brand but also by generating demand and ultimately sales.

As a result, I’m passionate about providing smart, sensible and sustainable marketing services for small businesses. In fact, I find that by breaking down marketing into achievable and actionable steps, I can help your business grow.

My marketing experience

I’ve gained a considerable amount of marketing experience over my 25+ years in the industry. Over that time, I’ve worked in sectors ranging from tenpin bowling to scientific services, with some charities along the way. I’ve worked for global businesses with million-pound budgets as well as small companies with marketing spend of just a few thousand.

Yet, nothing beats the thrill of seeing a small business grow and succeed. For this reason, I offer practical and hands-on support to get you started with the fundamentals of marketing.

Marketing strategy

  • Value proposition
  • Ideal customer profiling
  • Market positioning
  • Campaign planning and delivery
  • Analysis and evaluation of results

Marketing execution / delivery

  • Copy writing for digital and print
  • Social media – paid and organic
  • Search engine optimisation (SEO)
  • Search engine advertising (SEA/PPC)
  • Event / conference management and delivery
  • Webinar development and hosting

Focus on small businesses

My experience of working in small and medium sized companies has given me insight into the positive impact of marketing. At the same time, I’m aware of the time and money constraints you face. Consequently, whilst some investment in marketing is needed, I don’t believe it has to follow the usual model of a full-time employee.

Instead, I provide the marketing leadership you need, plus the hands-on experience of someone willing to carrying out day-to-day tasks. All of this comes without the burden of a fixed overhead. To learn more you can explore the different ways of working together.

Why Pink Purple Marketing?

Picture of shona and her mum who has pink and purple hair having a drink

My parents were self-employed for the majority of their working lives. I gained first-hand insight into the ups and downs of running a small business and the many rewards it offers. As a result, I’ve wanted my own business for a long time and have finally taken the leap.

I wanted a company name that linked back to my parents and particularly my Mum who was such an inspiration. She was a bundle of energy and hard worker, always willing to help anyone, and enjoyed an occasional G&T.

She used to dye her hair various shades of pink and purple and I wanted a name that captured Mum’s spirit.  Thus, Pink Purple Marketing was born!

The colour psychology of the brand colours also reflect some of what were my Mum’s best qualities (hopefully mine too):

  • Pink represents compassion and emotional warmth
  • Purple speaks to creativity, wisdom and ambition
  • Blue has characteristics of reliability and trust

Why work with a marketing consultant?

The thought of investing in marketing – when, how and who with – can perhaps feel daunting for a small to medium business. The reality is that every start-up or small business will already be successfully delivering a level of marketing such as a website, social media and local advertising . However, like with many business functions, from finance to operations, there comes a time when specialist support is needed to truly help the business grow.

A marketing consultant is there to help you understand the scope of marketing, from strategy and planning through to delivery and analysis, all tailored to your specific business but without the cost of a permanent overhead. You can decide on how much time and support you need and when so that budgets can be managed according to your sales and cashflow.

A great marketing consultant will cut through the jargon and provide smart, sensible and sustainable marketing that will grow your business.
